You look at the plug and see how the cars running... you can tell all kinds of stuff from the color and condition of your plugs.

25k is a good number, I know guys that change them every 5k and others that go to 50k or more.... it really just depends on how they are performing at the time.

So i have 41K miles on my Zx3 and this is what my spark plugs look like, ive noticed hte cars ben idling a little rough, and i have a guess that THIS is the problem (reafer to attached pic)

and if so, ill pick up some copper core motocraft.

and wasnt there once apon a time a How To, on making your own beafer sparkplug wires? or am i Crazy?

WOW... that plug looks like it wasnt even firing.

You may have either a bad plug (obvious) or plug wire. New plugs definitly will help, unfortunatly i havent seen a write up on making your own wires.

oh come one now, its not THAT bad

the car runs great! jsut a little rough on idle.

and how do i tell if the plug wires need replacing, other then replacing them and seeing if it helps....

ill try adn rember to pick up some plugs soon

wait till its dark out... start the car and look for sparks jumping off the wires or start the car and touch the wires if you get shocked (almost piss yourself) then you gotta bad wire (both good ways to find out if they are going bad)


Or take a multimeter and check the resistance on the wires (this way you dont get shocked)

so what is the restance supposed to be? im guessing .0001~5 ohms or so per wire? or is there s good number meaning there junk?

Well if you have a bad wire the resistance will be higher than the others so it will be obvious which one it is.

Another way is with the car running, use a set of INSULATED pliers and pull the wires off the coil one at a time and listen for a change in the engine... if you pull one off that doesnt make a difference then its the bad one.
