I'm looking on C-F-M's website for wires. They have msd 8.5mm for $50 and cfm performance wires 8mm for $39. So are the MSDs worth the extra $10 for the .5mm? Also what are the stock wire size? Thanks

pelotonracer2 you mentioned something about facing the spark plugs the same way, what does that do? and was it the gap side facing the exhaust ports? And do you have a part number for that MSD coil?

Its called indexing, you face the tip of the spark plugs toward your intake manifold, supposed to help with combustion, its some old school hot rodder trick.

Actually you are suppose to face the spark plug opening toward the exhaust valves... that way when they ignite the "explosion" is already traveling towards to exhaust valves as they are opening, thus giving you better scaveging and a higher exhaust flow rate.

Hi There, After waiting far too long I recently did some spring cleaning and changed my fuel filter, plugs (Motorcraft Coppers gapped to .060) I haven't noticed any real difference. It feels a little sluggish and even had a bit of pinging launching up a steep incline last weekend (the first I've ever noticed). My plats had over 100.000km's on them before I changed them out, but I haven't changed the plug wires though. (I have 2 year old Steeda's and a new set of Taylors Thundervolts waiting in the wings) I just want to know if I should be adjusting the gap smaller before I change my wires or if the wires might be the reason for the sluggish mid RPM feeling I am experiencing? I thought I would notice more than just a smoother idle.

Have you reset the ECU yet?? sometimes after changing out the filter you need to reset the ECU so it will relearn your fuel maps.

You shouldnt have to close the gap, I would go ahead and do the wires the same time you reset/clear the ECU and see what it does then... sometimes the Focus needs to "unlearn" the trends that the ECU has picked up over the years.

I did unhook the battery for at least an hour or two. Is there any formal procedure for resetting, I just hooked it up and started to drive. I thought it seemed better at first, but it has been feeling pretty slugish, like I mentioned, for a couple of weeks now, mainly in the mid RPM's, WOT doesn't seem too bad.

5 minutes is plenty long enough.

Have you bought gas from a different place or went with a lower octane lately??

I'm just asking since most people get a smoother idle and better responce when they change the gap on thier plugs.... then again you may have a wire getting weak or maybe the coil is a little weak.

Its hard to tell without seeing the car in person... these are just a few things to consider.

By "formal procedure", I'm meaning, do I have to let it idle for a certain legnth of time before I start driving again? I read somewhere on this site, that I should! Also, no on the gas! I use mainly Shell 91oct or sometimes Chevron's 93, I haven't noticed any differance with either.
