Who tracks their Focus and where do they do it?

Hi all,

New to the board, but wanted to find out who is tracking their Foci and in what regions? I'm on the Spec Focus Rules Committee and we're trying to get an idea of people who track their cars (or are interested in tracking their cars) and general ideas as to where they run.

We're expecting 20-30 Spec Focus cars running across the country by the end of the year, assuming everyone's build progresses as planned but hopefully we can get some folks on the board interested in heading out to the track or perhaps even building a Spec car.

No commercial interests in any of this - I'm sponsored by my wife's Mastercard , but am looking to grow the community and the series. It's a great, inexpensive way to race.

So, by way of greeting, I'm running a Spec Focus-prepped 2005 ZX4 sedan with the 2.3 Duratec out of Northern Virginia and am frequently at Summit Point and VIR. Missed the Redline event in September with a broken clutch, but should be out one more time this year at the EMRA races in a couple of weeks. I've been at most of the NASA events since June and have met a few of you, and hope to see more of you at the track throughout the year.

Doing DE or racing?

Leo Capaldi is regularly at Mid-Ohio with his collection of spec cars - as are a couple of other racers. I'll be hauling out there as well as we anticipate 6-8 cars running on a regular basis out your way. They also run grattan and some of the other tracks with the NASA Ohio/IN chapter

I auto-x pretty regularly and Road Course my car when i can at Nelson Ledges Road Course in OH as well as Beave Run in PA

Nothing quite like the Beave's paddock when you have to work under the car. Could the gravel be any pointier?

In which NASA regions is the Spec Focus series most active. I live in Chicago and I went through the 2007 Midwest region event results and found only one SF car driven at one event. I know the Midwest region is a newer region for NASA and I'm curious as to what level of interest your seeing from this region.

The most active region at the moment (I believe) is Ohio/Indiana. They had 4 cars at the Nationals, and I believe there will be 8-12 cars running by mid-year. The NorCal/SoCal regions also have a pretty good car count, but the overall numbers can be deceiving. A lot of guys choose to run NASA Performance Touring which allows some additional mods, but offers bigger fields to race against. Any car can run PT, and you're classed based on the mods you do.

Midwest and OH/IN do some crossover events (I think), so you'll see Leo Capaldi's 3 or 4 cars out there as well as a number of new entries. Expect classes of 6 or more at those events.

How far are you from Mid-Ohio and Grattan? Those are the tracks that have the most local particpation for Spec Focus.

I'm in the Mid-Atlantic (Virginia), but now tow to Mid-Ohio to have some foci to race against until we find some local guys to come out.

About 3-4 hours from Grattan and 4-5 from Mid-Ohio.
