then it may be on its way out.
it will also light up when the rpms get really low and the ecu detects that the alternator output is below normal range. i see it on mine once in a while when the rpms dip in the 500 area.

p.s. talk to Ford AU for us so we can trade the Falcon for our Mustang

The voltage regulator is going out. I'd take it off and take it to an alternator rebuild shop. I've actually taken my alternator (not a Focus) off in the parking lot of a rebuild shop to have it rebuilt. It will be cheaper than replacing the whole alternator.

Best of luck mate!

just happened to one of my zetec wagons..

changed the alternator with a autozone one and it was fine for a week. then it went out again.

I would check the 3 wire plug on the back of the alternator. Pull it out and see if there is any corrosion. Also feel the wires as they go into the back of the plastic plug and see if they are broken or loose.

if thats ok then check the terminals. Wiggle them, clean them, and spray some anti-corrosive stuff on them

if it still happens
replace the alternator with a FORD one.. dont mess with cheap rebuilds it will come back to haunt you.
