focus vs. contour

I'm selling my svt contour really soon, and thinking about picking up a focus. How do they compare? I've heard the focus feels higher in quality, atleast the SVT. Has anyone driven the svt focus and the svt contour? I was wondering how the transmission of the getrag feels to the mtx-75(don't really like). Also, how easily upgradeable are the focuses? I've seen several superchargers on cars for sale, how much do the supercharger kits cost vs. turbo kits and how much do the stock internals hold up to? My next car I definately want to either supercharge or turbo, and I'd like better gas mileage too, how do the focuses do in the city? How easy are they to work on, like changing a clutch, installing suspension? What should i look for in a used focus, and if I'm going to be modifying one does it matter if I get an SVT focus or a regular focus?

I would get an svtf. i have driven them both and liked the ride of the svtf alot better. The svt has better internals for boost. I would just put a powerworks or a used JRSC on it and it will be a fun car to have. i have done suspension work on it and had no problems with doing it but the clutch i have no idea.

I have Driven the SVTC and I have an SVTF... The tranny in my SVT feels more like a sports car transmission... The SVTF will probably be the best bet for you..

I like the SVT but they do seem to have more problems than the regular Foci. Also, I don't see how a higher compression motor is going to be better for boost. If you plan on doing some serious upgrading I would probably start with an 03-04 ZX3 with the 2.3 Duratec and a mtx. I hear there is a conversion to the SVT trans available or it's possible. There are many ways to look at this but I would say if you want to keep it stock SVT, mod it 2.3 MTX.

I think the SVTF has forged rods, that's why he's saying it's better to boost a SVTF. The pistons won't hold up to a lot of pressure though.

High compression and boost dont normally mix. I would find a 2.3 duratec like Egg said above. larger displacement, and the duratec is a stronger design.

I Test drove a hand full of SVTF really liked them! the gas mileage isn't as good as a reagular Foci. When I bought my ZX5 the saleman had a SVTC and traded for the SVTF and would take the SVTF over his old SVTC anyday much more fun to drive he said.

Wow... Okay.
For what you want, I would the SVT Focus is your best bet. Forged Internals, Getrag 6 Speed Transmission, Legendary stock brakes and suspension. Interior is Amazing! (especially in the European Option package) and the car is completely and subtley set off fromt eh other foci. As far as aspiration goes, there are many kits for the SVT as well as the stock Zetec. However, the SVT will give you better gains due to its better internals and the helpful internal oil squirters. The MAX BOOST ever seen on a stock SVT is I think 23lbs through a Turbo. Buying a Powerworks Blower and running around 12lbs will give you about 250whp SAFELY. Also, the next best supercharger out there ie the Famous domestic Procharger. Its a centrifugal type and will give you 260whp easily and still SAFELY at 12lbs.

Theres alot more I could tell you but it'd take up pages!!!

The SVT is the best car you can buy for $10,000. What you want to look for in a used one is an 04' Euro edition SVT with low miles. If your planning on supercharging it, then clutch condition doesnt really matter. Just Remember 3 things when buying one.... 2004... SVT... Euro-pkg.

Also research the infamous Clutch TSB on this site. You'll learn alot about the primary and almost only problem with the SVT Focus.

Last, as you know, SVT is a special branch. They did a great job building the SVT Focus so you cant go wrong with it.

Let me know if I can help you with your other questions...

It's because of the stronger internals. If you want to get really crazy with the boost, you can lower the compression.
