Popping noise in the front end

I am not sure if this is in the right spot or not, so feel free to move it if necessary. Anyway, I had this popping noise in the front end of my car. I take it to the mechanic and he said that the spring on my tire was broken in half. He told me it wasnt safe to drive. He fixed the spring and I took the car home. I still have the popping noise in the front end. It has gotten a little worse but the first month after it was fixed, I chalked it up to the new spring getting worn in.

The popping noise is really loud and it kinda makes a crackling noise. It only happens when I turn my wheel. Sometimes it is worse than others. If I am take a hard turn (turn the wheel all the way to the right) it makes this strange winding noise. I took it back to the mechanic and he told me that it was a stabilizing link that was going bad. Does this sound right to you guys? They told me the spring was going to fix the noise and it didnt. Just curious, and if this is the problem, is it something I need to get fixed asap or something that can wait and it would just be an annoying noise.

Sorry for the descriptions, I am a girl and I dont know the proper terms...haha

its your strut tower bearing... when it poops its seezed, does not turn the way it should... just changed mine for the same reason... take it back to the mechanic and ask you money back or have him replace the bearing free.

^^^ Can you explain a little bit of what is involved in replacing that bearing? That sounds like what might be happening to mine also... makes a popping noise when turning sharply at very low speeds. What causes the bearing to go out? It apparently happend to me just after I lowered my car.

I have the same issue. I'm going to do the axle and bearing when I do my drop cause it could be either.

it just goes out... go and buy a bearing at the dealer, only like 10.75 with tax.. and it should cost around 30-50 bucks to install... i think dirt is the culprit, but could also be bad mounting, or just plain they fail. i changed mine 3 times on the left side, but mine failed from bottoming out and the vibration i experience i think...

Could be an end link, or the sway bar too, but with the turning noise I would agree with everyone and say start with the bearing.

Anyone ever thought of the inner race bearing of the CV joint?

If thats the case, its deffinately the CV joint bearing -- So on the contrary if it was the Strut mount/bearing The sound of ticking or Grinding would be consistant, instead of him noticing the sound when he ONLY turns the wheel

Jack up the car, remove the front wheel on where the sound is louder [good idea to check both since you're adding stress to the other mount/bearing/etc] and inspect the boot on the CV joint/axle

if its torn like this:

you need a new one

But if the boot looks new [which would explain what your mechanic did, since the problem still persists] remove the boot and inspect the inner race bearings for scoring, cracks, etc

here's is a basic idea of what it looks like

Let me know how it goes
