They violated federal safety guidelines making them a potentially liable
*edit never mind its for a trailer queen

Welds crack, especially in heat treated steel you are going to need a certified welder, pipe welder in particular certified to 1/4 inch at minimum this is depending on whether the alloy is safely weldable or not

also porous welds would be difficult to balance, a proper weld though with dual shield mig or tig would be the most advantageous to make a balancable wheel

So what about the numerous people who do this? I actually haven't heard anything bad about it from people who run banded steelies.

^^^ WE have done that with aluminum motorcycle rims. KOSMAN offers it, its $350 a wheel...and its VERY tedious, you have to get a PERFECT weld all the way around the rim TWICE

^^^ WELL, if the band welds aren't PERFECT and the band isn't perfectly straight it will be crap. NOT easy to do

And remember, just cause people do it, doesn't mean its okay...Have any idea HOW MANY idiot motorcycle customers I have riding sportbikes in the summer balls to the wall on bald tires?

^^^well put...If A PROFESSIONAL shop and a pro welder did it, and tested it, its prolly fine, but anything less.. No THANKS...

You guys REALLY need to think about the job a rim has :)...also, the amount of time it ould take? just for a wide steelie for looks? I"ll pass again.

Just buy a used set of rims from our resident Lord Wheel Whore

Yeah. I'm not trying to drop a lot of cash, hence why I was looking at other options.

I'm gonna cry if I don't get new wheels before FR11.
