Viper 5900 Alarm/keyless/remote start installed

Well, a few months back, a few of you may remember me posting a thread on how my car was broken into..

When it was broken into, they broke out the passenger window, stole my pioneer radio, and stole my ipod..

luckily, i had bought the ipod on my best buy credit card, which has the insurance plan offered by best buy.

The insurance covers the cost of any remaining balance..

So after two months of fighting over the phone with customer care for the bst buy card, and impatiently waiting, my account was credited back.

IOver the two months of waiting, i had been thinking what to get with the money i get back. Thought about replacing the radio, as my pioneer was gone. but whats the point of replacing the radio if theres no alarm to let me know its being stolen

So, i decided after seeing that we got the new viper 5900 remote start/keyless/alarm in stock at work, i decided that was the best option

http://www.viper.com/Products/Produc...?ProductID=103 you can look here to see the specs on the unit.. dont feel like going into specifics

biggest thing about this system is, a. its two way paging, and b its got a mile range

so i picked it up last week, and it was put in today..

now before i get flamed for not installing it myself(while im sure i can) i had a friend install it for me. I helped out with the install, but i wanted to do some crazy things with it, and i didnt want to screw anything up, so i just said, go ahead and do it.

Onto the crazy things...

the unit has a few aux outputs, so we decided, whats the good in a remote start if you cant turn on your heat by remote as well.. so he made it to where i can turn on the blower motor by remote control

another crazy thing. he suggested that we set it up to where when its remote started, the radio will not be able to function, so that if i remote start it, and i left the radio on full blast, you wouldnt hear the subs bumping while its remote started.

so when i remote start the car, the radio doesnt function, BUT as soon as i disable the remote start, the radio turns on

and last but not least, i decided that i wanted a piezo siren mounted inside the car as well

if you dont know what a piezo siren is, then do a quick google search.

its basically the most annoying sound you can ever imagine, crammed into the interior of the car. so when the alarm is going off, the piezo alarm sounds inside the car, making it very uncomfortable to sit in the car... so if anyone were to get in the car and try to steal something, they will loose some hearing..lol

i will make sure to post video of it working tomorow

i have a few pics of when my car was broken into and such for now..

ill try to get some good videos of it tomorrow.. hopefully can get a decent one of the piezo as well :)

onto pics

this happened on august 21st.. came out of work to find my car broken into

heres the new alarm in the box

and i only got one pic of the install, but i will post a video hopefully tomorrow

the alarm works amazingly.. i have yet to test the range of it, but everything else works great.

its nice to have the option to turn on the blower motor with the push of a button, so no more leaving the heat on full blast when i leave the car... that was the biggest problem with my ole remote start, was i would forget to turn the heat on when i left the car, so when i would remote start it it would just warm up the motor, but not warm up the inside of the car...

now i can just press a button, and bam, i know the heat is on..

OH.. and for everyone that disses best buy installers, this install was done by a best buy installer.. its a damn clean install, everything works flawlessly.

video soon to come

I have had that unit since it came out. I love it, but the range is kind of a joke... It has an awesome range but no mile range.... unless you are in an open field with nothing around to interfer, my dad has the 791x orwhatever in his turbo diesel and of course I get the better range... but it's satisfying... since a mile is usless unless you run damn fast to go get your car (which your piezo should help) but on average a mile is ran in like 10 minutes which if they are good and quick... will be driving off or already gone by the time you run out there.

Other than that, it's amazing. and the 4 different AUX functions are cool. What I plan on doing this winter is doing the window mod so I can roll down the windows.. but the system only does 2 windows per unit... so you ahve to get 2 of them.... Also heat is an option to do. But good buy

oh, the mile range for the alarm portion is a waste, its more for the remote start than anything else...

its still nice to have... idk, ill try the whole mile range thing eventually...lol

the first one shows the remote start, the remote hearter controls, and the radio kill

the second video i really didnt want to pund on the glass all that hard, but believe me, its plenty sensitive

the third one is the piezo.. :) notice how it overpowers the alarm on the outside of the car

well... i work at best buy, so i really cant say how much it cost me, but normal price on the unit is 499, then the piezo is like 20 bucks or so...

BUT its not installed like a normal remote start/alarm

i didn not use a bypass module, so i saved some money there...

if you were to walk into best buy and do everything i have done, you'd be looking somewhere around 650-700 bucks...

for me, it was a considerable ammount less...lol
