What if the Mini Cooper S moves out of GS?

It's looking like the SCCA might be moving the Mini Cooper S from G Stock the D Stock. With the Mini gone, I'm wondering if the SVTF might become a viable contender in GS.

What do you all think?

Glad to hear it!
I still don't think they should have been classed there any longer than their 1st year as it was.

But...it really won't affect me or my SVTF.
I'm not moving back to GS (from STS) any time soon.
The engine mount, STS, and 22mm rear bar are going to be staying on the car regardless.
^^^Those 3 items are the only things I installed that kicked me out of GS.

Our SVTF just has a 22mm rear sway. We pull that off and we're legal for GS. Running on a set of 225/40R17 Hoosier A6's could be a lot of fun.

I think it'll be a good contender on a local level, better than the 2.5RS's, but I'm not sure its a quick enough platform to beat Spec-V's, 2ZZ-GE Celica GTS's and RSX-S's nationally.

my car is sts because of my catback, short ram, sts, and finally my rear stress bar. however i do wanna go faster. so i'm gonna do what i can to end up in street modified.

Believe me, if any of the top autocrossers in the country thought that a Focus would be competitive at the National level then they would be driving one. The Mini Cooper has been successful because it is a contender right out of the box. The 2007 model is competitive in expert hands with only a set of lightweight wheels with DOT race tires. In previous years the Toyota Celica, Mazda Miata and the Dodge Neon were the cars to have. Of course it helped that Dodge was paying some hefty contingency money.

I went back through the scca national event archives and it looks like the folks that were running an SVTF back in 03, 04 and 05 were not top drivers, just one time national participants. Without data from top drivers in the SVTF, I think it's hard too say how well the car could do at nationals.

Case in point, the Shelby GT was the car to have in FS this year. It placed both 1st and 18th in FS. The 07 Mustang GT placed 2nd and dead last. The driver certainly makes a difference.

I don't know that the SVTF could ever win GS at nationals, but I think it could be a stronger contender than the results from past years would suggest.
