I really hope Ford does something way cool in 2011 and acts like the 08 Focus never happened (minus the lighting and very nice gauges) and bring out the MkIII Focus in Europe and then North America a short few months later. I would love to see some version on the Verve concept evolved into the new MkIII Focus. This new Focus we get for 2008 is not an enthusiast-oriented vehicle like the original seemed to convey (esp. the ZX3). I really though Ford was going to one up the NA MkI in a big way when the spy shots came out, but I just do not like the look of the new car and the engine is the same D20. I have a Zetec and I really like the motor a lot, the Duratec may be a slightly better engine, more advanced or whatever, but the way the car is wired is strange to me, the Zetec looks so clean sitting in the engine bay. But that is just my opinion. Duratec owners, I do not mean any disrespect, Cosworth and FS have some great parts out that make that engine in stock form a real beast.

yeah, i stop today at the ford dealer close to my place, and they have 3 '08, 2 red ones and 1 blue, all of them 4 doors... the guy came out when i was there saying " the 08's are finally here!!! " , and i just look back and shake my head... the wierd thing was that he not even try to sell me one, but he keep looking to my SVT... the only good thing that i can say about the '08, its that the interior is really nice, and look expensive ( i didnt get into the car, so im just saying that "looks")... i hope that the coupe looks a little bit better, but anyway, i dont think that 2 doors makes a lot of difference ...

I just went to ford.com. What's the deal with mazda now? does Ford own them completely now? Last I heard they only owned 30% of Mazda.

I haven't test driven an '08 yet, so I can't speak in terms of performance, but I did manage to check out an SE sedan model up close. Personally I wasn't too impressed by the interior. And I was surprised, because initially it looked great in some of the early shots online. It doesn't look too hideous, but it doesn't feel anything like it looks either. The faux brushed steel scheme (which contains lettering that reminds you that you are in fact riding in a Focus, in case you've forgotten) and glued-on "chrome" fender vents are just way too cheesy for me.

It seriously felt like I was stepping into an '04 Chevy Malibu, with the thin steering wheel and cheap plastic trim everywhere. I guess I've just become so used to the solid, leather-wrapped steering wheel of my ZX3 that anything less feels cheap to me. This monstrosity doesn't look or feel anything like a Focus should. My condolences to any '08 owners out there. It has potential, and the SES trim might be a whole different creature altogether, but at that price point I'd probably look into a slightly used car that has better aesthetics and features altogether.
