you should be able to find some plastic/fiberglass, 1 4'x8' sheet will do it, but I would worry about sound, any road noises are going to go right through plastic, and it will be brittle, so you won't be able to set anything heavy on it, I would stick with carpeted plywood, I used 1/2", but you could get by with 3/8" to save weight

Well I happen to have a large roll of sound foam in my garage, I was hopping that would take care of the sound.

yeah, I guess you could, but when you're only talking about a 5lb difference, I'd still go with wood, just for the strength and durability, it's going to be a bitch trying to keep that plastic from flopping all over the place, but, post some pics if you do use the plastic, I'd like to see it

Well for example, SVTs without the Audiophile package came with these two compressed foam inserts that surround the spare tire... it keeps the carpet/mat flat instead of bulging up in the middle from the tire. I imagine a good solution to a back seat delete would be getting this foam, shaping it to the contours of the floorpan, finding a way to secure it down, and glue some carpetting to it. Lightweight and useful.

that would probably work, but you wouldn't want to set anything too heavy on it, it would probably dent fairly easily
