auto-x in a stock focus?

I would like to start auto-x but my focus is pretty stock. Would it be safe to run or could I damage anything, like my suspension or anything. Also is it ok to run an automatic car? Should I go to an event and watch first before I attempt anything?

You'll be fine with a stock Focus and it's ok to run an auto. Many people have run automatics. Show up early, put some extra air in the front tires, ask plenty of questions and have someone ride along with you on your first couple of runs to show you the ropes. Other than that, enjoy the day...that's it.

The Focus isnt a bad H-stock car overall - and besides that, it's a pretty decent car to learn autocross in. Just keep repeating in your head, "slow is fast, slow is fast, slow is fast..." You might not believe me now, but by the middle of next season you might well.

H Stock is the classification used by the SCCA for smaller displacement 4 cylinder engines and smaller cars.

It applies to all non-SVT foci like yours. Not necessarily the fastest cars in the field, but the class is very competitive with non-S class Minis and base model civics.

I second all that was said above.

HS is a great learning class and with time and experience, and the course layout, you will find that you can be competitive.

It doesn't matter what class you are in or what is done to your car as long as you go and have a great time!! AX'ing is the best bonding experience you can have with your car, so just go, have fun, and learn the limits of your Focus!!

check out your local scca chapter.
Or porsche club of america...i run at some of their autox here in MD.
A quick search should bring up some auto-x sites.then just find something in your area and go.

We've got a great driver here that runs a stock Focus who runs with the top 1/3 of the field. He beats me regularly.

This is more about the driver than the car. Any (small) possibility of damage to your car will be offset by the skills you will aquire and take away with you. I pulled a cone up into my front fender and damaged the liner, a $60.00 mistake. Later I avoided an oncoming truck on a blind corner that was half way in my lane...
