Using a Manual Throttle Body with an automatic

Alright so a lot of people have automatics, and often find themselves looking for throttle bodies that only work with manual cars.

Well, I've devised a FIX for this.

I have the old 65mm FC throttle body and it only has holes drilled for a manual TPS.

I bought the adapter bracket from C-F-M assuming that was all I needed.

WRONG

The computer only sees throttle mode "0" (stuck between idle and WOT) with this done.

Result: Bad idle and Faulty shifting transmission (It's all based off TPS and MAF)

Then I went out an bought a Throttle Position Sensor for a manual transmission.

Idle cleared up, now it read throttle modes "-1" - idle and "0" - cruising

Result: Still won't go into WOT. (aka tranny won't downshift when you want it to)

I get out of the car and pull on the throttle plate, my computer reads "1" WOT, but if I do it using the gas pedal, it doesn't work... HMM

So If you look at the gas pedal, there's a stop sticking out on the base of the throttle. When you push the throttle down far enough, it hits this stop and can't go down any further.

Seeing that this was plastic, and I'm studying mechanical engineering, I decided that gives me the right to destroy this thing lol.

So I went and got my wire cutters, got em around the stop, and ripped it off.

Got back up and put my foot on the pedal... -1....0....1 Problem Solved.

Uh, the post is 6 years old.......................and doing what he suggests will have your butterfly going overcenter to decrease power. You may even tear up the TPS from over travel, or the throttle cable from running out of slack. Or, the other word for it, stupid.

If that's what we got for mechanical engineers now, well, it explains much.

Top "sticky" on this page has details for the TPS issue, likely more help than the kludge mentioned in this old thread...
