2008 and still no rear disc brakes????

The focus is now entering its 8th production year and a new design is about to be rolled into showrooms. Yet Ford still does not have disc brakes standard on the focus, and now they have gotten rid of them all together. I understand it helps save production costs, but arent disc brakes better then drums all together. Wouldnt have disc brakes make the focus a safer car, in that itll handle better in braking and will stop sooner. Why would Ford cut safety especially with Volvo the number one auto safety company at their side. Braking is so important and before any of the bumpers, crash foam etc have to do their part, your brakes have to first.

Yea the car is light and now even lighter, so I'm sure the braking distance has dropped alittle, but why not make it even better. I just don't get it

typical ford leaving out or cheapening a key safety feature that would make something better.
Thank the car gods for after market upgrades!!

Honestly, I dont see how using drum brakes over disc brakes saves money. There are more parts in the drums and disc brakes have been around forever. I think they're just trying to use all their surplus of parts up first. Chevy still uses drum brakes on the Cobalt too, so its not just Ford.

at least chevy offers disc as an option, or at least another cobalt model with disc brakes. I bet that would be another question that would go unanswered if you were to ask ford. Like the whole 2.3L discontinuation thing. People asked about that when they went to the factory recently and Ford just said "no comment" or changed the subject.

I hope that no comment is hiding something good like...oh cause we decided to keep it for the next ST thats coming out thatll have a turbo and this and that...instead of just idk we wanted to cut cost and we're

The Saturn/Opel Astra is coming out soon...we'll see if Ford made the right choice to ditch the hatch.

it's due to the fact that many people didn't order advancetrac versions of the focus (mine is one of them). these came standard with rear discs. i'm dure if enogh people had ordered them the 05-07 and even the 08+ wound have rear discs and advancetrac stability and traction control (with a shutoff switch)

dude, I thought the ST was the only model that came with discs. I didn't even think they were an option on other models. I'm sure that the car has plenty of stopping power, but drums are gay.

The 2008 is dumb. I don't understand Ford They always talk about safety this and that in their ads on TV and print. Yet all these safety features are options and most of the time they are part of FRIGGIN packages! So you have to buy a bunch of stuff you might not want just to get the one thing.

My dad just bought an 2007 Honda Accord because of his new job requirement. With these new requirements he will be on the road a lot. So safety was a main concern. Look at any Honda, even the base models, all come standard with ABS & side curtain airbags. Stability control and other features are available too.

Long story short, Ford needs to stop skimping not only on drum brakes, but the safety features as well. Come on this is 2007 and ABS is still an option?!?!?!?!?
