Hard Drive Based Decks Question
Hey guys, got a question for ya.
So I have several options here. I'm going to get a hard drive based cd deck, to store all my songs on, and I have several options. 1. Get a RIO empeg mark2- top of the line deck. However they do not make them anymore, hard ot find, and prices are going up (much like a classic car). This will work excellent, just lots of money, If you can find one. 2. Get another hard drive based mp3 player. As of now, I only know of one, which is the Neo 35, unfortunately ive heard horrible things about it, and It wont replace the stock deck, it will need to plug in to an auxilary input. This brings me to option 3. 3. Get an Ipod, fairly cheap, ~$250 for a 15gig. But here is my main question. I have a stock single cd player in my zx3 right now. I just took it out to check for any kind of inputs, and no luck. So here is my question, any way to hook up a secondary device, like an ipod to the stock deck and still make it sound good? In the back there is a green 12 pin connector that is not being used, anyone know what this is? I know you can get a device that will broadcast the ipods music to a channel, then you just tune your radio to it to hear the music, but quality will be lost, and i dont want that. I really want to do it right. No ghetto rigging here. So anyway I can hook up an ipod to the stock deck? Anyway to tap into the wiring harness to hook it up without loosing sound quality? Or anyone know of any good hard drive based decks that will replace the factory one? Thanks a bunch guys, share some knowledge if you have it. Brett

do you mean you want a full deck that has a hard drive you can store mp3's on? There are several options out there I'm pretty sure, I think sony has one, kenwood has one, eclipse has one in there AVX2494 I think. I guess I'm confused about where you are having problems?

If you are only interested in a HDD-based player to replace the stock deck check out the Alpine HDA-5460 at http://iweb.alpine-usa.com/pls/admn/...in=10&p_more=y
You can use it in a stand-alone mode, but I would recommend it only as an add-on - you have more control with a regular Alpine HU. You can also get the Kenwood music keg, or a Sony HDD player as well - it rips audio CDs into its HDD in ATRAC3 format if I remember right, I don;t remember the exact name. Also, Dension is a cheaper alternative http://www.dension.com/main.php, I've heard many good things about them. As for an iPod connected to a factory HU I think the best option you have is to get an FM modulator which connects directly to the antenna port and use that - quality is lot better than using an FM transmitter on top of the iPod. Does you stock player have CD Changer control? If it does, I think it is possible to get a small device which connects to the changer port and produces an Aux-In.

Thanks a bunch blubisz, that Alpine deck is a bit out of my price range, but that dension looks like a good option, the deck retails at $579. I have never heard about dension, thanks for pointin them out. Ill keep doin some research, I cant belive there is no way to get an auxilary input on the stock deck, but oh well, shit happens.
Thanks again, Brett
