When should you get a timing belt changed?
Hi All,
My mate has just gone over 100,000 miles in his VW Bora without a timing belt change. I read the Ford service schedule and it says for the ST 100,000miles....but people are telling me that it should be 60000 miles. Has anyone ever had trouble with their timing belt. Im currently on 53000miles without timing belt change. Its going in for work on wednesday, dye think I should get the timig belt changed? how much does this cost for a focus in dollars, euro, sterling? cheers

The belt should be cheap 20-50 dollars. The labor should be 1-3 hours. If you red line your car often 60,000 is a good time to change it. I think that you should wait a while if you suppose to change it at 100,000. On my zetec I had 130,000 on it and I ended up having to change it because it looks like I ruined it. It was still in good condition. Have the mechanic take a look at it and see if it needs to be replaced.
P.S. I'll trade you grills.

Yeah so, im just paro that something will snap because of hard driving. I mean I drive it fast, but I dont redline much, but I dot know what the previous owners have driven it like...2 girls the last 2 owners and a guy before that. Would it cost much to have him look at it? cos I have a stack of work for them already
1)A/C 2) Reverse switch in gear box 3)Heatshield on Headers is missing a washer so it rattles 4)Fitting new discs and brake pads-(I bought my own discs and brake pads, so this is only labour) 5)Basic service (oil change etc) Would that be expensive do ye reckon?

well here a hour of labor is about 85 dollars. I think you would be charged 2 hours plus the 50 or so for the belt.
