Smile Oil, your engine and you..

As most of you know when running Forced Induction it is always important to keep an eye on your oil. Keeping it changed is the LIFE of the engine, but is it the oil or is it the FILTER????

Right now I have about 30k on the SVT... the last 15K (maybe just a tad more) have been turbo'd... and there hasnt been many easy miles put on the car.

When I tore my motor down for the rebuild I noticed there was NO buildup of any kind... no caking, no deposits no signs of ANY oil related issues... you ask what kind of oil I'm running... or you're thinking that I've ran Synthetic from the first oil change.... Nope.

The first couple of changes I used pure dino oil straight from Ford, I switched to Ford Premium blend Synthetic when I went turbo and ran it for a year or so. I went back to Pennzoil DINO oil for one oil change to see if I could tell a difference.... not really.. it was about the same as the blend.

Eventually I went to pure synthetic... Mobil one then eventually to Castrol Syntec... I thought the Syntec felt "slicker" to the touch at the same weight oil and BOTH of the Synthetic oils were slicker than the Dino oil.

The MAJOR component that stayed the same was the FILTER... I run the Factory filter.... except when I can find the WIX equivalent (personally I prefer the WIX filter) With alot of the new oils stating that they can go for extended periods of time between oil changes your FILTER can NOT. Once its full thats it... the oil just bypasses the filter... NOT a good thing.

So when you do an oil change dont skimp on the filter... I feel a good filter is just as important than the oil itself.

But after seeing how CLEAN the inside of my motor was after the beating I give it I thought I would do a little FYI write up on the oil/filter topic.

Yeah I will use only the WIX or Amsoil EaO oil filters. It's good to hear that there was not much coking like they always depict at the Shell station, lol

Why?? You dont need the PCV.

I've vent ALL of my engine vents to atmosphere since day one... not even a little filter on the end.

ANd if I did have a PCV I would NOT route it back into the intake... you're just asking for trouble when you do that.

can we see a picture of your set up and how it is vented. i want to vent mine and get it off of the intake manifold.

right now i am running a catch can between the pcv and the intake manifold. do you just take the valve out and let the black thing be open?

That's all I was asking.
I vent mine to atmosphere too with no PCV valve but use a catch can.

I just run my vent lines under the tranny and tie them off.... then everything can vent straight to the ground.
