Has anyone conclusively seen or have real physical evidence of any failure caused by running a udp on a zetec?

nice. now that we have all the theory crystal clear and out of the way lets get some cold hard facts. personally, i would never use udp. not enough gain for the money and effort. but if you have had success or failure with a udp, and can prove it lets hear it.

The rubber dampens the load from the rotating Assy to help curb harmanics in the rotating Assy THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IF IT IS INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL BALANCED And you also are confusing Harmonic balancing with internal balancing , did you know that they make both an internal and external balancers , pulleys what ever you want to call it with rubber in it You stated "The pulley is not a dampner as it has no effects on internal engine balance. " A Dampener , Harmonic Blanacer HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ENGINE BEING INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL BALANCED And where ever you go that write up from my guess is they sell UDP because there VERY misleading on how they state things Tom

I cannot say that a UDP has caused any engine failures in the Zetec engine that I have seen. Are they worth the cost vs the gains no do they remove the biggest thing that helps fight Harmonics in the rotating Assy YES The Avg. Joe Focus owner wont be making enough power or high enough in the RPM range to see if adding a UDP will hurt anything so each will have to decide if that want to take that small amount of protection off I have built / tuned well over 150 300HP Focui now and not a one of them have a UDP and wont use them my self Tom

I would like to see a similar article from an unbaised source that doesnt sell UDP's.
And yes, I dont think I have seen a failure due to a UDP on a zetec. However, with my high mileage and the fact that I dont know how well the motor was taken care of before I got it at 135k, I would not like to be the first. It seems the last 4 posters (including me) have all ended their post with their opinion about why or why not to get one. Even with all of the fact on the table here, it obviously still comes down to opinion and choice.

Tom...
So basically your arguments are based off of personal opinnions not fact. N/a focus guys have little options for bolt on hp, this mod just happens to be one of the safe reliable options they have. Here are facts. Fact, A udp creates power gains, Fact, no one has ever seen a failure of a zetec engine that they can claim was the fault of a udp.

Fact, the Rubber between the accessory drive pulley (harmonic balancer) is for dealing with harnonics created by the rotating Assy (Crank shaft , Rods , Pistons ) as it fires
Fact, The Zetec is an internal balanced engine BUT THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE HARMONIC BALANCER. Internal/external balanced engine is getting confused with removing the Harmonic Balancer Fact, When you remove the "Harmonic Balancer" from the zetec engine you will be getting more harmonics through the rotating assy. Fact, The UDP for the cost vs the power it adds isnt worth it even IF it does not cause any engine problems Fact, even tho no one here has seen a failure from the UDP does not mean one hasent happened Fact, No testing has been done to say no engine damage is hapening Pzev04boy these are all facts and they didnt come from reading something that a Co. wrote trying to sell said product. I allways enjoy people debating things with me that havent a clue on how things work or has yet to get into and build engines This is what I do for a living and im good at it, I dont sell these type of parts so have no gain by what im saying Im not trying to say buy one or dont buy one, im trying to make sure the people here are properly informed because of the misinformation massive has posted (from massive site)"Zetec motors are INTERNALLY ZERO balanced, meaning the factory pulley IS NOT a harmonic dampener of any kind." Just because an engine is internal balanced has NOTHING to do with it has a Harmonic balancer Tom

either way i'm buying a udp because i could use the small amount it gives. and im my mind every little bit helps when it comes to making power. besides i'm poor and really cant afford the fancy cams and race heads some people run. not to mention the forced induction systems and stuff. so yes i'm doing it because it fits my buget right now. and that is the true bottom line...... what people can afford to do or have done

the only reason i bought my udp was because it was 50 bucks...
only difference i really noticed was a quicker rev, but it really kills your a/c at a stop, and it definately kills the charging system on the car.. hell, ive got 2 10's and before i did the big three ground/power upgrade, the headlights and interior lights would dim badly... |

ok, we are not saying that you are not good at your job or that you dont know what you are talking about, so you dont have to come back with a response that tries to say that everything someone else posted in this thread is wrong and is "misinformation." i just wanted to know the truth and i think that the information that Pzev04boy posted was the best info that i have ever read on the udp topic.
