Need good wheel studs/lugs
Hey guys, I typically AutoX every other Sunday and therefore switch wheels every other Sunday.....well I tend to destroy my wheel studs and lugs from the constant use and strain of racing. At the beginning of this season (April 1st) I replaced all of them except one which I ended up getting a stud/lug from pepboys after i crossthreaded it. Well its now late July and the 15 studs i got from the dealership are in bad shape now, they just dont last. The pepboys one is still in great condition. I realize now that it does matter where i buy them and I was wondering if anybody knows of a good set that will last and hold up. If not, then pepboys it is.

arp has studs, but they are longer than stock. i use kyokugen lug nuts which are open faces and allow the studs to protrude through them about 1/4 inch.
you should never have a problem when using this combo since the nut is fully threaded on the stud. stock studs dont seem to offer enough thread engagement and dont withstand the loads due to it. http://www.prostreetonline.com/x/kyo...wheel-lugs.asp m12x1.5 summit racing carries the arp studs, but i forget the knurle size offhand http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...=KeywordSearch

goinloco1, would you recommend the kyokugen lug nuts with stock studs? If not how difficult was the arp stud install?

ARP studs, whatever nuts you prefer and anti-seize.
Now I haven't autocrossed my Focus but my Miata sees 10 to 15 autocrosses a season and I haven't had a lug stud problem in ten years. Ford must have cheaped out on the Focus studs. |

studs are actually not hard to replace , i did all of mine on the svt with just the wheels off. make sure you have a stack of washers or an oversize nut, then use an old lug nut to pull the stud in when you tighten it. i'd also recommend checking the tightness several times, about every 25-50 miles, to make sure they fully seat. and torque them, don't just crank them down

Ive had to replace all of my fronts already....whether it is from Tire Kingdom using the impact gun too much, or me being uber strong (hah....you be the judge ;-|) all of the fronts have either stripped, become seized, or just spun off the stud itself. All of the ones I have replaced came from pepboys and no problems.
