Choosing a helmet for AutoX

I think that it's about time that I try my hand at the cones to see what the SVT will do. I know that the first time out, it's going to be somewhat nerve-racking and confusing simultaneously, but hey it'll be fun. As long as I don't break anything..

I was just wondering what type of helmet do you other coneheads use? Full faced motorcycle helmet or do you run with a MotoX helmet??

I'm sure that the officials check to make sure it's ANSI and DOT approved, and, that you've got one to cover your melon.

This is what's in my eyesight right now, but I'm also open for getting a solid black or white bucket also.

I'd suggest a Snell SA-05 rated helmet...it'll be more expensive than a motorcycle helmet, but should you ever choose to go beyond the parking lot and take it out to a real track, they more than likely won't permit a motorcycle helmet.

I got a Bell Mag 4 open face helmet at Summit Racing in April for $290...I prefer open-face because I think its more comfortable and I have no intention of ever owning an open top, windshieldless car that would require a visor.

Check out soloracer.com. I got a G-Force open face in white for $163.00 shipped to my door.
Also you'll need numbers and class letters. Go to Home Depot and aks for "Vent Blockers" their in the heating and cooling section and used for covering radiator vents in a house. What you'll get is three 8"x15"sheets of flexable magnitic material for less then $5.00.
You can print out your own numbers and class letters, at least on rmsolo.org but they may be available on your local Solo Racing web site as well.
Use some spray adhesive to apply the numbers to the magnitic sheets and you'll be ready to rock!

I went with a white open face. Want to stay cool. I picked up zamp JA-1 cuz it was on the cheap side. If I had more money I prolly would have went in a different direction. It's on the bottom of this page.
