Exclamation Electrical System Failure Half Way Up a Big Hill

-To be thorough I'll mention that I got an Focus Central 65 mm throttle body about a year ago and it threw a throttle position sensor light. It also caused uncontrollable revving but I was able to turn the thing around 180 degrees, fixing that problem but not the light. I considered replacing the throttle position sensor noting that ford racing often sells a new one with their wider throttle bodies.

-Recently I had my battery light came on when the air conditioning was on. This didn't really surprise me because as we all know foci are balls when the air conditioning is on and I figured it would only be a problem when the extra stress was on the engine. No such luck the battery light remained on. I got my battery tested at Autozone and it was ok.

-Last night when I was coming home from a night in Manhattan chasing honeys the throttle started sticking again and the battery light went off. I knew this was a curse in disguise when the throttle began to lag when I put my foot down and then struggle back to life. As I hit the large hill that leads to my neighborhood the car really began to shit the bed as the throttle lagged and the car almost stalled out and and I had to throw it in 1st and pump the gas and pray as I began to roll back down the hill into traffic. My gauges and lights died and I was able to get home in the higher rpms of 1st gear.

-I suspect the alternator. Has anybody experienced anything similar? I'd appreciate any insight anyone has to give. Thanks.

that would be the first thing id check.
when an alt goes it runs off the bat only (why they dont have an idiot light for that i dont know) then when the battery goes out the car cant run since there is no power left, just like an rc car.

Check the wiring to the alternator, there have been some people that have had problems with the plastic connector that plugs in the back of the alternator, more than once I've seen threads where that pigtail had to be replaced.

Beat me to it ^^^^ LOL, also, take the car in and have the alternator checks. An autozone or some one like that will do it for free. It needs to be charging the battery at over 13 volts, 14.4 is about perfect. Anything below 12.6 is a discharge situation. Then you will know.

Also, when you get that fixxed, you can unplug the battery for 15 minutes and that will clear that CEL for you. Seeif it comes back.
