Test drove a Volkswagen GTi MKV

So, I decided to rid myself of my focus after having got into an accident. The accident wasn't my fault but it was a hit and run. Insurance is picking up every cent of damage. The incident was an eye opener and prompted me to look into a new car. Looking around, I didn't really find any cars that were worth getting rid of the foci for. I then came across the new GTI MKv. Sign me up. I took it on a test drive this afternoon and all that I can say is damn. That is an amazing machine. I opted into the 6 speed automatic DSG transmission, which is basically a manual transmission. It was a sport mode that allows you to redline an automatic through all of the gears and allows you to use the shift paddles or if you chose not to it will take over for you. It took it on the freeway and didn't even notice that I took it up to 100 in the matter of no time. I think I have been bought. Sad to leave the fofo behind, but the reality is that I am on to bigger and better things at this juncture in my life. Its been real but I want a car that is stock turbo pushing 200hp.

Stock turbo pushing 200hp is not really that impressive, but the price is right (more or less) so I guess it has that going for it. I do think it is a good-looking car and hope it has better reliability than past VW's. Ford owners don't have much room to talk, but ask anyone who's owned a VW about reliability and how many times they've had to have their car fixed, and you will hear plenty of stories.

Those are nice cars. I rode in one (my husband was test driving it) and I thought it was nice. Didn't think it was that fast though. The price tag turned me off too.

But good luck with your purchase!

I don't know, I've always been a big fan of VW's, but that's just me.

The price tag is a bit hefty but i really did enjoy it. Of course with any purchase there will be haters. It is okay, no hard feelings, I am just out to get a fast car out of the box. It was a great rush to experience a vdub as I have always wanted one as I began to drive. So the thrill out me over and sold me without a doubt.

Enjoy it, I wouldn't want to be caught dead owning a VW...its the stigma attached to ownership that turns me off (seems like 80% of VW owners are self-absorbed douches with a sense of entitlement a mile wide.) Sure they make great cars...I just hope you're ready to either pay up for the dealer to fix problems once its out of warranty or buy special tools to remove common parts. Say what you will about the Focus' reliablility...at least when I have a problem I can fix 99% of them with a regular socket set.

I think VW has it's problems, and I'll never own another one, but definitely congrats.

Keep in mind that these things are not 'tuned up' from the factory. A tune with regards to timing and boost control will really open up your car very quickly and easily. I have a friend who's addicted to VW's and worked at a dealership for a long time and simply loves this car.
