REGISTRATION OPEN!! Summit Point August 4-5

We've had a few fanatics come out to play at Summit Point this year. We need more!!

The Greater Washington Sector of the Mercedes Benz Club is hosting a two day open track event at Summit Point on the Shenandoah Circuit.

Registration is now open and you can sign up and pay your entry fee online.

Visit: http://www.gws-mbca.org/SummitPoint07.html

This is a good event because of the limited number of cars. We expect that there will be no more than 150 cars this year for both days.

There will be 4 run groups that represent driver experience.

Novice
Beginner
Intermediate
Advanced

Each track session is 20 minutes long with an instructor - if you desire at no extra charge (Novice and Beginner are required to have instructors). Most of this event is spent on track. There is a short classroom orientation in the morning, but then it is all track time.

If you have questions, feel free to contact me here or through PM.

We also need additional instructors. If you are interested in supporting the event as an instructor, PM me.

Thanks,

Tom

No, you put up to a tech inspections at the track, and a person will look over your car to make sure its in sound running order.

From the site:
All cars must be inspected before the event at a dealer or independent shop, and you must bring the signed or stamped safety inspection form to the event.

I'm just wondering what type of inspection I need

It is more comprehensive than just a trackside inspection. You must take a copy of the tech inspection form to a qualified (ASE) mechanic and have them look at the car. They look for the following:

ENGINE COMPARTMENT ok fail REAR SUSPENSION ok fail
Accelerator linkage bushings/springs ___ ___ Axle shafts/boots ___ ___
Air filter bracket, mounting ___ ___ Shocks/leakage/rubber bushings ___ ___
Battery frame/hold-down ___ ___ Springs/center spring ___ ___
Battery/cables ___ ___ Stabilizer/bushings ___ ___
Engine clean ___ ___ Subframe/mounts ___ ___
Engine mounts ___ ___ Tire wear – not less than 3/32” ___ ___
Engine oil/fuel leaks ___ ___ Trailing arm bushings ___ ___
Belts ___ ___
Visco clutch ___ ___ DRIVE TRAIN
Water pump/water hoses/clamps ___ ___ Center Support ___ ___
Water leak ___ ___ Flex disc/universal joint ___ ___
Transmission mount ___ ___
FRONT SUSPENSION
Ball joints/bushings ___ ___ BRAKES
Draglink/tie-rods ___ ___ Brake booster ___ ___
Idler arm bushings ___ ___ Brake calipers/cylinders ___ ___
King pins-no play ___ ___ Brake discs/drums ___ ___
Shocks ___ ___ Brake fluid renewed ___ ___
Springs – No spring spacers ___ ___ Brake hoses/brake lines ___ ___
Stabilizer bushings ___ ___ Master brake cylinder ___ ___
Steering box, lines, leaks, play ___ ___ Brake pads/shoes-min. 50% for
Steering shock/coupling ___ ___ 1 driver; 80% for 2 drivers ___ ___
Subframe mounts ___ ___ Brake dust shields removed ___ ___
Tire wear-not less than 3/32” ___ ___
Tires-no cuts, bruises ___ ___ EXHAUST SYSTEM
Wheels-bearing play/damage/Bent/correct lugs ___ ___ Exhaust leaks ___ ___
Exhaust system secure ___ ___
OIL LEAKS UNDER CAR LIGHTS/SEAT BELTS/WINDOWS
Engine/transmission ___ ___ Signals/stoplights/headlights ___ ___
Rear end/differential ___ ___ Seatbelts/windows – operation ___ ___

It's all subjective to a degree. Trackside, they check the lugnuts again and that's about it.

Not really a big deal. The Benz club insurance policy requires the formal inspection.
