Choosing an amp

I just installed a JVC CD deck in my '02 and still have the stock speakers. What should i look for in choosing an amp? I want to add one and replace the factory speakers (front and rear). I listen to mostly country and classic rock so i don't want so much bass i crack a window (they also sound sucky when they vibrate so much) thanks for your help.

Get one matched to the power specs of whatever drivers you're buying.

Alpine, Rockford, Kicker, Polk ect.. all good companies to look at..

Amp: Infinity 475a

Speakers: Infinity 6822CF 6x8's

Great for Country, Rock, or Rap. Enough bass reflex without it being overpowering. They sound natural.

good sounding and high quality speakers DO NOT sound suck when they hit hard... shitty speakers "vibrate" and sound like ass due to amplifier and physical distortion. do some damn research and find something you'll like. I recommend heading over to madisound.com and finding their autosound 5.25" components set for your front and amping them with something decent.

What I meant was enough "thump" to give you a good kick of bass.

Too much is never enough?

There is no perfect combination. You have to experiment because you need to listen to what it sounds like in your car. The acoustics of the sound room at your local shop is totally different than your car, so it's hard to know until it is all installed.

That being said, if you are looking for fairly-reasonable sound volumes with decent sounds, you might not need a subwoofer, but if not, your low end will be lacking unless you are willing to dynamat (rattle-resist) your car and still get a 25-50 watt per channel (4 channel) amp. 6x8 speakers produce decent bass for the kind of music you are listening to, but it is not excessive and you'll probably want more soon, You'll need to make sure whatever speakers you get are the correct depth and size for installation on your focus. The door speakers have to be much shallower than the ones in the rears. Factory speakers are typically crap and if they are old, give them the boot. The power coming out of your stereo now is not very high so, don't expect much fidelity without an amplifier.

I'd say a powered 10" bass tube would be a nice upgrade if you want to go there next. This makes it modular so you don't have to buy everything at once.

12's are overkill for classic rock and country, and then you need to figure where you will put it all.
