Taking the SPI to the track; a few friends comming to race.

Well it should be fun. I really have no interest in going, but its on the way home from work, so we should be able to get in without having to wait.

2 friends from work want to race, so i told them i'd come out too. I think i can beat both of them. But we'll see. No Big deal anyway.

-Me: 2001 SPI 5 Speed, Stock w/K+N Drop in.
-Friend: 1997 2 Door Golf CL 1.8L 5speed, Cam, Intake, 2.5" SS Exhaust, clutch of some kind, 17" wheels (this is a 90hp car stock)
-Friend: 1991 Daytona 2.5L 5 Speed (Not turbo..100hp stock) K+N, Muffler, and UD Pulley. 17" wheels.

Anyway it should be fun, i hope i can keep up with these guys. We all weigh in around the same from what i have seen.

I'll let you guys know who wins.

What sort of track? Road course, drag, etc? By the look of things it's drag, but just wanted to let you know just saying "track" isnt' very descriptive...

Well that ended up being pretty entertaining. I didnt realize the 91 Daytona was a 2.5 Turbo, full exhaust, a boost controller, intercooler and a few other goodies. It was actually the fastest car at the track tonight.

We are at 2800ft of elevation.

I ran: 17.71, 17.97, and 17.44 all at around 82-85mph, with 2.3 seconds being my best 60 foot time. This was at 24psi in my front tires. As for excuses i had 3/4 of a tank and it was 23 degree celcius today...

The Daytona ran 15.0, 15.1 and 14.6 @ 12-15psi. His first time at the track, as well as mine... and those were with 2.5 Second 60 foot times. (for comparison there was a 95 camaro z28 LT1 auto there that ran a 14.71)

The VW ran 18.3, 17.9 and he didnt run again after that because his drive belt was really loose, and as he hit high rpms his battery light kept comming on and his voltage guage was reading really low. I think without his 17" wheels and some better shifting he could have run low 17s high 16's. I rode shotgun with him on the 17.9 second run.

Well thats how my stock SPI ran. I didnt launch hard, and i shifted consistently at 5300-5500rpm using the digital tach. I think with a better 60 foot time i could hit a 17 flat.

Well there you have it.

Not bad, I have read that the stock zetec focus runs a 16.8, I don't know accurate that is though.
