Cams, Gears, Timing Set Installed w/ Pics!!

Well... we tore into the foci this morning to replace the timing belt, tensioner... idler... water pump... Comp stage 2 cams.... UR cam gears.... starting out with somethin like this...

After tearing out the reservoirs... acc. belt... motor mount... valve cover... and a few other nic nacs....

dirty old cam....

Exhaust cam lubed up & installed...

Both cams installed.. ready for gears & timing components...

Gears hand tight... belt in place... waiting for buddies to pick up correct idler pulley

Timing components in place... ready for gears to be torqued to spec....

Gears torqued... motor mount re-installed... other components put back in place... and ready for clearances to be checked...

After turning the motor over a few times by hand... checking clearances... surprisingly enough... none of the buckets even had to be moved.... some how or another... they were within spec... none were under .005... most on the intake had a light drag at .006... and the exhaust was slightly looser... all within spec.

Fired it up for the first time.... sounded great... minimal valve train noise.. the same if not less then what it was factory... and a decent lope at low idle...

Anyways... it runs nice... has a decent top end... but kinda laggy in the low-mid sections of the rpm range... so i believe i may have one of the cams a tooth off... not quite sure yet... gonna pull the vc back off within the next couple days.. get a degree wheel on it and get the cams properly setup...

only one question... what is the best way to find true TDC on the zetec? should i just use the pin? I got the tool kit from OTC.. so not sure how accurate that is...

Anyways... thats all I got for now...

Currently trying to get the initial start-up vid uploaded... but for now.. thats all i got...

just rolled over 90k... i bought it at around 80k... and the person was a pharmacy sales rep... so who knows how long it went inbetween oil changes and what he used...

i run mobil 1 now... and am planning on running sum seafoam and a little bit of ford ATF through it on my next oil change to hopefully clean things up a bit....

the more i drive it... the better it seems to get... but i still believe i may be a few degrees off... when you get on it... it seems like the exhaust gets a lot louder... but the car doesnt pick up and take off.... so hopefully getting them dialed in will help...

where can i pick up a degree wheel kit that will work w/ the zetec? any where i can rent one? this cam job pretty well drained my fundage....

its kinda wierd... but if im light on the pedal... it definately has a noticeable difference in power... but if im hard on it... it struggles to pick up and take off....

i think it may be my exhaust holding it wwwaaayyy back. i know its a no no... but it was time to change the timing belt and everything anyways... and i didnt wanna take it all back apart... so currently... all my mods are piped through factory exhaust (exept the header that is)

anyways... gonna get them degreed in next week if i can... and go from there...

still workin on the vid... havin trouble w/ my computer at the moment...

Have you messed around with the cam gears try advancing your exhaust gear and retarding your intake for some low end.

Also set the gears at max advance or retard and see how it feels. Make sure you give the crank a rotation by hand first though.
