Valve Cover Gasket on SVT

well, my gasket is leaking and I am going to replace it. I have read on here that you can replace the SVT gasket with one off a standard focus and it will raise your compression a tiny bit.

I tried finding threads that detailed this a lil more but couldnt find any....

So, has anyone done this? How much does it change the compression? Was there any noticeable change in the engine? I am stuck with 91 octane here...am I still going to be good to go?

Gimme whatever details you can. My guess is that it really wont make any noticeable difference and so forth, but I would like to know.

Thanks

I'm not sure if the compression ratio changes at all but wouldn't the standard Zetec gasket be shaped differently because of the VCT solenoid?

i dont really see how a valve cover gasket can affect CR...a head gasket will but not a valve cover gasket...you cannot use the standard zetec one because of the SVT's VCT.

That's what I was thinking, also because the gasket fits into the recessed outer edge of the valve cover itself and is above the plugs and pistons.

I've also got that How-To thread showing how to change that sucker out too...don't know anything about changing to a Zetec for better compression ratios, but maybe others can lend to hand to that info.

You will not see any difference whatsoever in terms of performance gains.

Will it fit? Yes. Is it wise? Not so much.

Go with the proper part.

Ugh, bummer.

I've been through FIVE valve cover gaskets. Scour the forums to find out how to do it EXACTLY right, it's a bear.

I've never done the work myself but it might help to have a witch doctor and the spirit of Voon Glandensten with you when you install it.
