Smart move? your thoughts

So i have like pretty much every bolt on out there for my Zetec....

the next step would cams and cam gears.....but looking at my engine its just 202XXXkm.....runs great....put out 125whp and 129tq.....i take care of this engine like myself.....i add everything i can in to as regular maintenance (synthetic oil, injector cleaners, engine flush,ect..)......

i think with these numbers on the engine it would not be too smart to put cams.....also im not sure about my compression....how much does it cost to do one? if some compression is off, how can they fix it up?
so im sooo not sure about cams....like damn...this would really open this baby up

but anyways i bought Xcal2 over cams.....and planning to do it the most right way....tune it on the dyno.....$200cad. out of the door i've been told with 3 tunes on it

so im plannin to see something like 130whp maybe...

tell me, am i making a right move by puttin Xcal into my car with no cams......

another quastion....how hard is it to change springs and retainers? cuz i think its the only part the really wears off the deals with cams

let me hear some thoughts please

thank you

A compression test will probably cost more to have a shop do it, than to buy a compression gauge and do it yourself. VERY easy to do, it will come with instructions.

As long as the springs can handle whatever cams you intend on installing, the engine should be fine, even with over 200,000kms.

Compression could be off for a number of reasons: bad HG, burned valves, burned seats, bad cam time, cracked head, worn or broke rings, broken ring lands, burned pistons, cupped retainer, et cetera...

It is not hard to change springs and retainers. You will need a valve spring compressor, and something to grab the keepers with (magnet, needle nose pliers, or a stick with a dab of grease on it)

A tune is a great investment, will allow you to get the most from your engine.
