Changing your transmission oil with every motor oil change.

Just watched a video from Japan, Vtec Club, with Keiichi Tsuchiya (aka Drift King), Hattori Something, another professional driver and Tatsuru Ishishima, the former CEO of Spoon, now tech. advisor. They were answering questions from viewers and one asked about oil. Tsuchiya-san quickly says, "Pensoil" or some other brand. Everyone laughs and Ishishima-san says, "Okay, now that you've appeased your sponser, the real answer is that if you don't drive competatively just use Honda's brand oil." (not relevant yet, I know...) However, he then proceeded to recommend that drivers should change transmission oil everytime they change their motor oil. The reasoning was because the transmission oil isn't being moved around... it just "bathes" in there.

Now... I'm thinking... that's a new one on me. I mean... this guy is incredibly smart (just look at what he did to the Honda Fit!) and seriously... EVERY motor oil change?

Has anyone else watched this video? It comes free when you order the new Hot Version: American Touge 3

sadly, a transmission flush is very expensive is it not? so i dont think that is practical.

empty your tranny fluid. you will notice how unbelievably clean it is. its uber-impractical to do such a thing. i fully agree with drkknight614

Every oil change is a complete waste.

Every 30K is sufficient for every day driving. I change mine once per year because of AX and track events. That's probably overkill too, but I would rather be safe than sorry.

I ascribe to the theory of leaving the transmission fluid alone, unless you detect a color change or smell burning, orare losing fluid or pressure. Generally, as stated above, transmissions are "uber-clean" operating environments, so don't open them up unless neccessary.

I also believe, if I remember correctly, SVTs came with synthetic transmission oil, so no need for quite a few miles.

Hmm... what if you do... 10-15 minute runs primarily at the top of 2nd gear multiple times a week?

His sponsors tell him to so eveyone will buy more. Kind of like the old 10min oil change mechanic trick of telling you you need to change your oil when it turns brown.

BTW, how many quarts do the MTXs take? 2.5? I don't believe mine has ever been changed (115k).

Leave it as it is. It's in a sealed casing so no dust goes in. That's good for either ATX or MTX. Just check the level on ATX regularly (hot engine, car leveled and in Drive gear).
