Question Rough Idle - 2002 ZX5 Zetec

BTW. I did search, but did not find a post with this topic.

My 2.0 L Zetec ZX5 started getting bad MPG, about 21-23 MPG.
No mods other than a K&N filter. 68K miles.

I noticed a "hunting" rough idle when I came to a stop. This was
even when warm.
Today I was at a red light, and I moved the auto tranny into neutral/park,
and the rough idle got REAL bad. I put it in park, and it diminished.

I don't show any OBD codes, and no smoke or oil use, no vacuum leaks,
just cleaned MAF.

Any clues?

Thanks.

The Captain is very likely correct. My 02 did the same thing shortly after I bought it. The filter is less than 10 dollars, and a pretty easy DIY. Any DIY manual will be sufficient for instructions, also check the how-tos. If the filter does not clear up the problem, it may be the fuel pump. There was either a recall or TSB for the fuel pumps on the 00-01 foci, and I THINK that may also be good for the early 02's, but I'm not exactly certain.

^^ I am pretty sure the fuel pump recall was just a '00 problem and they had it fixed by the '02. But the fuel pump could still be the culprit. Go change the filter and then let us know how it works. We'll go from there.

Thanks to guys!

I've got the filter, and will change it this weekend.

I'll post results.
