Addding Daylight Running Lights to 2007 Focus

I purchased the larger of the two possible relay sizes that fit the Focus interior fuse box. I installed the relay into position #21. There are two 7mm hex head screws to remove, then push the fuse panel towards the front and lower downward to clear the path to position #21.

Now is the following situation:

When the ignition key is on to the first position, the radio can be played and no lights are on in the front of the car. I can sit in the car and play the radio without any headlights on.

When the motor is running, the headlights are on and in their dimmer DRL mode. I am glad as my 2007 ZX5 SES Liquid Gray Focus is hard to see during these cloudy Oregon days.

When the light switch is on things are normal.

When the light switch is pulled the fogs come on but not when the brights are on. This is the normal mode.

Anyone know how to make your fogs stay on with the brights? Does this only work for the 07?

you need to open up your steering column and jumper the 2 wires to get ur fogs and ur brights on at the same time.

Well on my ranger there was a 3 prong selenoid that you just had to bend back 1 prong to make it work. Not sure if there was some way simular to that.

Did I read this right? All I need to do to have day time running lights is plug a relay into the fuse box?

I don't know if you know but having the fog lights on when the brights are on is illegal.

In California, the law states:

(a) Not more than four lamps of the following types showing to the front of a vehicle may be lighted at any one time:

(1) Headlamps.

(2) Auxiliary driving or passing lamps.

(3) Fog lamps.

(4) Warning lamps.

(5) Spot lamps.

(6) Gaseous discharge lamps specified in Section 25258.

(b) For the purpose of this section each pair of a dual headlamp system shall be considered as one lamp.

(c) Subdivision (a) does not apply to any authorized emergency vehicle.

So while its legal to drive around with high beams and fog lights. When you switch between low and high beams you will for a brief second have 6 sets of lamps lite which is illegal.
