Another 65MM Throttle Body Question

In one hand I have the bizzar stock throttle body that has the angled butterfly and air path. In the other hand I have the throttle body from a 4.6l. The mounting pattern seems very close if not exact. The problem is that when I go to put the 4.6 TB in place, the throttle linkage hits the plastic manifold. I can alleviate this problem with a simple throttle body spacer. That showed another problem though, the original TB has the hole off to one side, not centered. An even larger problem is that the stock manifold seems to have a very small lip for the TB to seal on and the 65mm opening does not match (over hangs).

Is this mod worth the hour of machining that it will take to create an off-centered and tapered hole inside of a throttle body spacer?I don't like the idea of necking it down to almost stock, but it is still a much more open air path so I'm conflicted.

Thoughts?

So far I have 1/2 hour and $28.10 into the project and that includes the throttle body and about 60% of the spacer made. I'm going home now but ny the weekend I should have this installed. I'm still looking for opinions/thoughts though.

Thanks,

yeah I have been following your exploration of the the 4.6 tb on the zetec. I know it fits on a spi motor I did'nt think it would work with the zetec. can you take some pictures so w3e can see more about what you are talking about? Also for the aftermarket tb's the throttle body hole opening has to be gremaled out so the butterfly can open. You could try some sort of rtv sealant to help seal it? let it dry some though before putting it on so it can gel up and not squeeze out. Or you could try maybe some gasket maker sheets. You have a few devote followers here waiting to see the outcome this and we all wish luck too. Let know how its goes.

I just uploaded a picture of the solid model that I created to build this throttle body spacer, and a picture of the drawing that I made of that solid model. Feel free to beat me to the punch if you choose. I should be finishing mine tomorrow but it could be later in the weekend.

Pass your thoughts along.

use photobucket its very easy and fast to use.

Did you get the TB gasket that your going to need? You will also need to adjust the idle with the butterfly set screw.
