Unhappy Anyone else having this problem?

I have a 2003 Focus LX (5-speed) It's almost a year and a half old. This problem just started happening. When I go to start it everynow and then the key will not turn. I try to turn the wheel both ways and turn the key. It is just locked. The only way to start it is to shake the key all around, in and out, everyway for bout 5 seconds then it will turn. It really sucks. Is this a sign of a future major problem or what?

The key is designed poorly. I've been through my sixth ignition cylinder. It should be covered under your warranty. Most likely they will not replace it but have the cylinder rebuilt around the key. Get it fixed now, cause one day it wont work and you may be stranded 90 miles from home like I was,,, that sucked ford ass.

Oh yeah until they design a new key, be prepared for this problem to be reoccuring.
Good Luck.

After haveing several Ford cars and trucks I have found the same problem before. My only advice is dont lock the wheel when you park - IE leave the wheel straight up and down and try not to turn it after removeing your key. The problem seems to be in the locking of the wheel at a stop more than anything else. Although once you have *damaged* the wheel locking collar its hard to avaid this. Another choice is to remanufacture your steering wheel - IE remove the wheel lock completely, yes this means your steering wheel can be turned freely after the key has been removed but really who cares if you can. The engine will not start without the key and at this stage we all should have some type of alarm system installed.

Good Luck with your foci :)

I called the dealership today and they said it would cost like 225 to get a new cylinder and key. This freaking sucks. He said the only way I could get my money back is if Ford has a recall. We should get together and make them do a recall on this for thier poor key/cylinder design.
