Question

[quote=ryancsvt;1622577]...and I have a slight leak from my rear valve cover thats causing a vacume leak. If that wasnt the case and I hooked I would be in the 14's easy.
quote]

I have said leak, and I want max vac for mpg. What does it take to fix it properly...and what about cheaply & improperly?

Ok sorry I was wrong its 3,080 pounds curb weight bone stock, thats 380 pounds more than the focus.

Yeah there is NO room in the engine bay, even for the 1 turbo you have to relocate the battery to the trunk, move the fuse box to the front corner behind the headlight and its still a tight squeeze. Only way to ever do a tt would be a sts exhaust turbo type setup. And its even tighter in the focus.

Dont cheaply fix anything cfol77, either do it right or dont do it at all. Remove the valve covers and clean them and get new OEM gaskets.

iantm-I must disagree contour.org is great for info and thats about it. Not good at all for posting cause no matter what you post, if you arent from the northeast and have 10k posts than you will get flamed, not my idea of a good forum. www.fordcontour.org is a much much better forum. I got the 3080 from 1-800-ford-svt themselves for a bone stock 98 csvt. Mine is alot lighter now but thats stock curb weight.

A standard 2.5l swap is a nice setup; it has a nice punch, and a little more grunt than a 2.3l Duratec. Drives really smooth, with no hesitation. But it's not all that powerful. I'd suppose the 3.0l would be a bit quicker.

The tricky thing is getting the suspension dialed in correctly.

Yes the 3l on average gains about 30-40 hp and has alot more torque and high end power. Now if you do the msds headers, and y pipe with the 3l then WOW. And yeah the suspension is going to have to be very tight to make you hook in such a light car, I have a problem hooking and I am in a heavier car.

Okay, my bad about contour.org. My experiences with it are a bit dated - i.e. the last time I was around was in early 04 when I moved on to the focus. Chances are that most of the good folks moved on to other cars and forums and the site suffered. Pity.

It really was the duratec v6/mtx-75 combo that made the Contour a rewarding drive. The zetec powered Contours were terrible with the automatic, less so (but not great in any sense of the word) with the five speed. As for v6 automatic contours - I don't know - never driven one (anyone who truly appreciated the contour got the v6/mtx-75 combo), though sadly they are all I ever see when I peruse ebay or local used car listings.

If I ever came across a cheap (sub $1k) Contour with the v6 and mtx-75 - I'd do everything possible to talk my wife into letting me buy it - it's the only american car I'd buy to fix up and tweak around with.

Yes I agree, but at the same time I hope this guy will do it. The diff is the weakest link in the mtx-75 along with the shift tower. If you are planning on driving the a contour hard or even moderatly, or EVER take it to the track I HIGHLY sudgest getting a torsen atb. I raced mine at the track numerous numerous times before I got my tranny built and was told I was VERY lucky In didnt blow my diff from launching.

The shift tower is a problem cause the tower bolt sheers off. Terry Haines at HMS does the full HMS tranny's with the keyed tower bolt which is a must have. I will get mine done when My car goes under the knife.

Well its not just the tower bolt, you upgrade to the svtf shift tower and have it keyed and I think its around $225.00 and WELL worth it.

so how is this going? i was talking about this swap with another friend of mine in this focus community and it would make for an easy extra chunk of ponies in a sneaky build i have in mind for my focus in the next 2-5 yrs. my biggest worry is the wiring, but if there is a how-to you guys can expect a v6 twin charged awd focus in the next few years emerging from my garage. ::sneaky::
