ST 1/4 mile results at Lebanon Valley ...

The good news is that I ran my best times thus far with my car:



But my traps were lower than my previous best:



And here is why I think that is:

  1. It was over 20° warmer today than it was when I raced my prev. best time (73° vs. in the 50's on that cool July night)
  2. According to the National Weather Service, winds today were W/NW at 11-15mph, on that July night wind was almost nil (this 1/4 mile track runs almost directly East to West)
  3. Today, I used lift-throttle shifting in all gears (the other time, I powershifted 1/2 and 3/4 on every run)


Taking a 1/10 off of my 60 ft. time should have dropped my 1/4 mile E.T by 2/10. But instead, I lost even that 1/10 and only netted half of that in the 1/4 (.059).

See what I mean? It doesn't make sense, not unless I take into account the weather conditions.

So I think it's fair to conclude that the addition of the Xcal2 93 Tune this year has really helped. High 15's shouldn't be a problem given the same conditions as last year's run.

All in all, it was still a great day of racing - and I'm really liking my 2.389 60 ft. time too!

P.S. In about 2 weeks, I'll be dynoing my car at Red Line Motorsports using their Dyno Dynamics roller dyno. So no more "guessing," then we'll see what's what ...

I agree high 15's are mopre than feasable. Atleast you ran a better time than last time you went. My friend with full exhaust on his Z28 ran worse then when he was completely stock.

Yeah, I mean even my mph were off. I think that's the key.

I got in a total of 3 runs yesterday (there were about 150 cars there), but all 3 runs were dead on at 84.74 mph.

So I ran a faster E.T., but at a consistent .70 mph slower than my previous best. It had to be the head wind and the warmer air that made the diff.

*NOTE* There was a Mach 1 running there yesterday, and he was turning 14.1's. But according to Motor Trend, a Mach will run 13.9/13.2 (auto/stick).

Also, there was a guy there with a modded Mitsubishi Eclipse who looked very unhappy. I asked him what was wrong, and he told me his set up was good for high 13's, but that he was only running 14.2's.

Looks like everybody was fighting the wind yesterday! LOL

I shift at 6,000 rpm, launch at 2,000 rpm (slipping the clutch a bit) and the new engine they put in my car last year now has about 4,500 miles on it.

I see in your sig M/M, that you have run these numbers:

  • What rpm do you shift at?
  • What rpm do you launch at?
  • Approximately how many miles were on your engine when you ran those times?
  • What were the weather conditions?

I shift at 6,000 rpm, launch at 2,000 rpm (slipping the clutch a bit), the new engine they put in last year now has about 4,500 miles on it, and you alrerady know about the headwind/air temp.

P.S. I used a trial version of Drag Racing Analyzer with their pre-set "demo" vehicle of a stock '85 Mustang GT.

With no head wind, it said it would do 14.46@95.3mph

With a 15mph head wind, it would only turn a 14.59@93.1mph.

That's an improvement of .13" and 2.2mph, which would have changed my lap time to 15.968@86.94mph.

Now that's more like it.

My best CAI time was on my 15th run of the night and my 229th run ever.
To date I have 321 runs under my belt, 50-1/4 mile and 271-1/8 mile.

If you can't tell I keep a record of all my time slips and have them all organized as well.

When I used to race 'Stangs, I had at least twice as many as that!

But now, I just make maybe 9 or 10 laps ALL YEAR.

That's why M/M has got such good times.

BTW, thanks for the info M/M. I'll be sure to use those shift points the next time I go racing ...

i agree 15.4 is really good

for next drag track day im gonna wear winter tires i think.....i have too much spinning on my st200 with Wanli tires on.....any comment on that?
