Swapping a 2.3 in her!

I'm planning to swap a 2.3 into my baby. I'm doing the swap myself only because I am confident in my mechanical skills. I have plenty of ziplock bags, tags, and permanent markers to get it started.
I only ask if anyone has any usefull advice to give me before I attempt to do this on my own. I will be doing this in the Shop on base which supplies me with all the tools I will need.

One reason I envy the 2.3 is because all of the Cosworth stuff available and it seems 170-180whp is easily do-able N/A. Good luck with the swap and make sure to take pics so we can all admire your handy work or give us something to do at 1:42am on a Friday night with nothing else do.

I had to replace my 2.3 motor last year, (long story, PM me if you want the gory details), and I was able to do the swap in one very long day and night. I fortunately had some help and had access to fantastic home gargae with a rotary lift.

Anyway, the swap is fairly straight forward. Just pull the whole motor, transmission and all, out as one unit. Thats how Ford does it via thier service manaul. We tried to just pull the motor at the break point where it mates up to the tranny, but just not enough clearance. Ended up having to bolt the tranny back up then pull it . Its a snug fit, tight engine bay, but with a little patience and helping hands guiding it in and out, you shold be fine.

You might want to think out getting the ECU for the 2.3 also, but then again there might be an issue with the PATS system...? Just don't know about that....

Dude I want to do that! Keep us updated on how hard it is and whether you like the results or not. (Even though we all know you will!)

Well I disconnected just about every plug to sensor I could get to in one afternoon last weekend. Now today I plan on taking the engine out, and implanting the new one on. I'm also putting in my Flywheel, and stg3 clutch while she's out. I will show pics of the project soon

wow!! FYI: the driver's side bolt to the steering rack is a pain, and so is the removal of the driver's side axle.
And yes I will be boosting it. I didnt have a chance to drop the engine today but will attempt again tommorrow.
