Lowerd My Armrest

Im a big guy at 6'6" and my elbow always hit the armrest grabing 2nd for a downshift . Putting the armrest up made the problem even worse. So I took a big saw to it and dropped it about 4 inches.

Here is the console at normal hight

Mark the line out wheere you want the cut to be and just make a stright cut all the way across.

Here is one fisinshed side. Note the notch for the circle on the armrest.

Now for the base of the armrest, this is the harder part.

Using a chop saw we cut the same ammount off as with the console.

Taking the bottom peace we made some L brackets out of scrap metal. Drilling holes fro mounting.

Here is another shot with it put togther. Nuts and bolts hole the L brackets to the plastic at two places each. The epoxy is just for extra hold.

Finished armrest

Paint and Primer on the Console

Final shot in the car. Im gonna paint again with something with less gloss and maybe bondo up the back of the console for a better look, but really its more function than form for me.

Well it was a boring day so this was my project. If you have any questions or want more pictures Ill be happy to help.

That is an awesome idea, great job.
That would help out my husband, the console just gets in the way while shifting period.
Thanks for the idea.

you honestly wouldnt have to. If you use a drimel well you can make the cuts in the console with out hurting the plastic.

I painted mine casue it was jacked up, huge scratches, gouges, and what not. Also I wanted to see it black, just not so bling looking. A respray should be happening today.
