STAY AWAY FROM THE SALVAGE!!! I don't care if it's a ford or not! 8000 for a salvage title is waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much, accident AND flood damage.....the sticker on that car should say 5000 not 8000. VW FTW! (and i'm biased toward ford lol)\

oh and about ur gas mileage thing...on my recent trip to detroit, i got 34mpg all highway goin about 80-85.

In this case I'de go for the GTI...u don't wanna buy a flood vehicle man that's bad news. I would go for a SVT over that year of GTI if it weren't a salvage. Believe me though, you can find a nice low mileage SVT for under 15,000 that hasn't been submerged. Hunting is half the fun!

No way I would buy a car with water damage. Buy the GTi or find another SVT.

as the owner of 02 svt and 03 gti vr6.....damn its a good call....svt has the handelig and breaking also limited # of build....then the gti (at least mine) has the 2.8 vr6 also the 6-spd tranny and the quality build...but it does have super soft susp. compare to svt( I hate it)then the insurance $$$$$ damn just becouse is German made????....so in my opinion get the GTI or find your self another SVT...good luck!

Salvage/water damage, forget it.... if the GTI is your only other choice I'd go that way.

I agree with ashhabib....if you really want an SVT for a hell of a deal with a clean title and good reliability go with Carrera's car..he's well respected on this forum!

I've had both...still have my SVTF...if you keep both stock, I like the SVTF better. If you plan on modifying, the 1.8T in the GTi and $1200 for a tune and exhaust and you're looking 200whp plus. It would take a lot more money to get that in the SVTF. But, being the SVTF has spent time as a submarine, I'd stay away from it...
