dont know if anyone snapped crank yet. it's the connecting rods that are a weak point. they'll probably go first. a decent set of pistons and con rads should do you fine as long as ya dont rev past seven. the crank is rated to 8 sumthing but i wouldn't spin it that high. it's no rotary so yeah.

Does the compression really need to be lowered in our motors for a good turbo motor? I figured so long as you don't raise the compression over stock with most motors you should be fine. This is a question, BTW, I'm interested in understanding why.

I also would like to know... by the by... any good compression explanations on the internet or on the forums? This would help me to know when/if I should upgrade my head, pistons, and valves, etc.

Well lowering the compression means you can run more boost provided the heads and block can take it without blowing apart...but in reality keeping a higher compression accomplishes more or less the same thing but with lesser amount of air....I believe Tom said in some post the weak point of the zetec engine in making power and breathing is the combustion chamber design which is why going with a really high compression is pointless in zetec. I could be way off there...but i'm just pullin this outta my back pocket as i work lol.

But heres my basic explanation of it....a lower compression engine = more boost possible = more air in a cylinder which means more fuel can be added = bigger bang = more power.

Higher compression = smaller combustion area = normal amount of and fuel squeezed more = more power.

The key to making power is getting as much air and fuel into the cylinder as possible..getting a bang.. and getting it out just as fast
