Need a wider tire what will fit

Ok so I have been want to go to a bigger size tire but am not sure what will fit I would like to step up to 17 or 18 inch rims also. The biggest thing is I raced the nürburgring the other day and my tires were my biggest issue I was sliding through most turns unable to hook for traction so I was unable to push as hard as I know the car can actually do its a 2007 zx4 ses with stockers on it now the rubber is kumho which I will never get again absolute worst tire I've ever driven on there all season and if it is even remotely moist out I have traction issues and the durability of the tire is garbage to they have been on the car for Maby 10k and are already over half of there life is gone and mind you I don't do burnouts or anything of that nature but here in Germany there are a lot of back country roads that are fun to fly down because most don't have speed limits and if they do there is no one to enforce it lol. Any input will help

How 'bout using svt 7x17'' wheels w/ a 215/45x17 tire. Use a quality tire, as you know, don't go cheap. Sounds like fun!!!!!!!!!!
