Wastegate - Internal or External??

So the turbo setup that i have requires an internal wastegate flapper on the downpipe, but i don't have that, the other turbosetup i have that went to my 300zx is a t25 with an internal flapper on the exhaust housing itself instead of downpipe. The downpipe i have will fit on the other turbo no problem, just wondering if its necessarry to have an internal one. Would the external's be more cost efficient than finding a downpipe with the flapper in it.

We just welded the flapper shut, then used a manifold set up for an external waste gate.

Cant show pics of the manifold... its at the ceramic shop, but I can take a pic tomorrow of the flapper.
