Another: What should I do!?

I suppose y'all are sick of these threads, but I'm coming to you guys in hopes that you can help me make up my mind about the best choice to make at this juncture.

I NEED some new tires. That saying in my sig is lying...my tires really are going bald. Now here are my options.

Either way I go, I think I want to get separate summer and winter tires, since my all-seasons SUCKED in the snow up here.

I'm debating between buying a new set of wheels with my new tires (which I *could* afford), or just buying summer tires now and keeping my stock 16's, and then when it gets closer to winter buying winter tires and having them mounted and balanced on my wheels.

The trouble is that if I don't buy new wheels, each summer and each winter I will have to pay to have the tires changed, since I don't have the technology to do it myself. Another thing is that I kind of want 17" wheels, so this is my excuse to get them, but then again I really like saving money.

Here my options:

1.) Buy new 17" wheels and tires together. Here are the wheels and tires I am considering (based on low cost for wheels and low cost and ratings for tires):
wheels: -click
tires: -these are on my top end money-wise and based on the ratings as far as noise comfort, I'd rather stay away from them, but I know they are great tires
-these are what I think I would settle on if I bought the wheels as well, even though I heard somebody say they hated Dunlop tires...they seem to get good ratings...
-I've been told to stay away from Yokohama tires, so these are almost not on my list, but "just in case"

2.) Buy summer tires now, and then when winter comes buy winter tires. Obviously this would involve extra money for mounting and balancing twice a year...but here are those choices:
summer tires: -I've heard nothing but great things about these tires, plus they're inexpensive, which I like
winter tires: -Again, heard nothing but good things about these...and I think either way I would get these as winter tires

Please only post if you have a good, worthwhile opinion. Thanks guys.

You'll have to figure out which route is the best for you. But it's hard to beat a set of SVT wheels with Kuhmo SPT (ultra-high-performance) tires for less than $1000. You might even find a cheap set of wheels the forums to bring the price down even more.

Well yeah...see...well I guess I know it's up to me in the end, but I was just looking for opinions of what would be better/easier, etc...

ahhahah...damn quailman..i knew you had good taste. kumho is my ALWAYS preffered tire brand. but, i would just get a set of tires to fit your stock rims for now until you know you can sport a set of 17's+tires for them. your pimp drop you have will accomidate them for now bro.

I think you should buy the 17's for summer, and rock the 16's as winter wheels. I have 17's for summer, and I run 15's in the winter. Its really great having a separate set of wheels and tires for winter. That way I don't mess my 17's up from the nasty winter driving. Its also nice to be able to swap rims whenever is needed instead of switching tires back and forth on one set of rims. I like your choice of 17's also. I almost bought those for winter wheels in 16's, but i found an amazing deal on 15's with winter tires, and I'm happy with my decision. Those are nice wheels nonetheless. Good luck!

I'd go for option 1, mew set of 17" rims/tires and keep your 16" for winter...I don't like the idea of mounting/unmounting tires all the time on the same rims - however it's cheaper.

option 1 for me. i'd stay away from the generals though. my focus ate a set in less than 10k miles with the alignment in spec...
