Removing the Exhaust Resonator?

Will removing the Exhaust resonator "lunch Box" give me any HP gains?? Would removing the lunch box cause my check engine light to come on?

Just an increase in noise... otherwise nothing to be gained, and nothing to be lost.

Reonator=Lunch box??

sp after searching the forums i have been confused, is the resonator the lunch box?? I am planning on removing the resonator sometime this weekend, but after searching the forums i don't know what to remove if the resonator or lunch box. The reason i want to remove one of the two is beacues my car isn't loud and i want a semi loud tuner tone. will removing the lunch box cause the engine light to come on?

The lunchbox is a resonator... it is the big one that is immediately behind the rear bumper. DO NOT remove the center section behind the flex pipe, or you will have a rice sounding car. Removing the resonator should not cause a check engine light to come on, I have never heard of that happening because the resonator was removed.

I wouldn't go messing with the exhaust. Just add a tune (Tom) and K&N drop in and see if the exhaust note is to your liking. It should change a little bit and still be subtle without being annoying.

I've had "lunch box" muffler (actually the last of two resonators) removed. I consider it mainly a cosmetic improvement. The exhaust note has a smidge more volume and a hint of a smidge more "rasp". Butt dynos (seat of the pants feel) are famously inaccurate and subject to bias, mine reports no change in acceleration. No gas milage change and no check engine lights.

I'm eyeballing a high flow cat, and have heard that there is an increase in exhaust volume (louder) and hp.

Yes. From what I have heard, the HFC is pretty much the only NA exhaust upgrade the SVT really benefits from. I'm going to keep my car virtually stock, but make it faster. I like the way the stock exhaust looks, and the tip fits the bumper like a glove. The HFC and ORP are good for 5-10 WHP's worth of improvement...maybe more. Also torque is improved. HFC FTW

I left my exhaust open once, and someone stole my pistons and valve springs through the opening.

this is probably a really dumb question, but once you take the resonator off, what do you need to get the exhaust that extra foot to the end of the car? also, if i'm leaving everything stock except removing the resonator, what tip is the best to use? im looking for a good snarl in mine, nothing ricey at all.
