"Shelf" Chip vs. custom tuning

Sup fellows...I was looking around at options for upgrading my PCM and I've noticed a growing trend of companies writing custom control codes. I'm wondering how this compares to pre programmed chips as far as price and funcionality. For example, Focussport.com used to offer a Diablosport chip that would raise the rev limiter and remove the speed governor outright, among other things. If something like this were availabe, and it covered all the necessary areas (fuel injection), wouln't it be more cost effective to do that? Any opinions are appreciated, I just wanted to get a group consensus.

It would be cool to be able to tell people your ECU codes are custom tho...

Since i know practically nothing about superchip (the way they work i mean), but i have herd that diablo chips are very good, there is somethign about burn codes and what not which i have no idea about. Many people have the Diablo chip and to my knowlegde chips work very well in auto tranny foci...

And to try and answer ur question i am guess if a custom code chip was cheaper than go with it...

I have a "custom" chip right now. It is based on the LFQ ZETEC code. It is the shiznet. It revs to 7k, hits hard, and pulls from 3k to 7k.

Okay I have no clue about this ECU stuff. But does anyone else have this Diablo thing? Does it take away that annoying funtion that doesn't let you take off from a higher RPM than say like 2 RPM's!!! LOL. No really, does it stop this? I really need to fix that shit.

I'm not really sure what you're asking...chips and codes do things like raise your redline, adjust your timing, eliminate the speed governor, etc...I don't know if it would do what you are looking to do. I have never had a problem starting up, but then again I am usually only in 1st up to about 10 mph...

You can get custom tunes from places like diablo. If they know were the tables in the program are that control the RPM they can edit them to let you take off at a higher RPM.

Superchips are your best bet. Diablo has a high failure rate, and they have pretty much turned their backs on the Focus community for any real performance chips. FocusSport and myfordperformance.com have what we're looking for. As soon as my code comes out, the Diablo will be toast.

I was just noticing the same thing Waterboy...even FocusSport has stopped carrying the Diablo chip. I have checked around and superchips do indeed seem like the way to go.
