My very first time to the track.....got a rude awakening

I ran a best of 16.3 @ 87.90

I learned last night that street racing from a roll and drag racing is 2 different things! This is my first standard car and I need A lot of practice. I enjoyed my time there, nice atmosphere. I tried launching at different rpms but I'm not used too the tree yet. I had butterflies in my stomach one time missed a gear and ran a demoralizing 17.4.....oh well I'm not gonna give up, just gonna make me try harder
Any tips would be appreciated
Slip:
R/t 1.193
60' 2.896
330 7.383
1/8 10.987
Mph 68.00
1000 14.088
1/4 16.344
Mph 87.90

I tried launching around 3k rpm but I'm such a drag racing noob while I was watching the lights I felt my foot moving and I had trouble holding it steady at 3k.....

I feel for you man... I ran last night for my 1st time and I had similar results. (see "at least it looks nice thread") It looks like we both need a little bit of practice.

Wow, makes me not want to go to the track - I'm almost afraid to find out how slow I would be. I've been driving manuals for about 7-8 years now, and I have to say that the SVT Focus is a difficult car to launch. Traditional methods of launching lead to either time-wasting wheelspin or time-wasting bogging. You two could blame elevation for the slower times, but it doesn't look like either one of you lives in high elevation areas...

You need to cut your reaction time in half. (doesn't really affect your 1/4 times but in case you are racing someone in the other lane, it will help you win) , and get your 60' time down. The 60' time seems to show you are spinning your tires.

Yeah thanks guys, the track is in new hampshire and the guy said its at sea level, so elevation is not an issue, just the man behind the wheel.....I may buy one of those gtech pro or whatever they are called, and practice with that

60ft needs alot of work.

Also, your trap speed is high for a 16.3....shows you could be running better.

I don't have an SVT (wish I did) , but my 60 ft. in bone stock trim was 2.48. You could definitely do better with practice. I imagine with a better launch and grip you could easily be around a mid to high 15.
Humidity/ Heat also affects your time, you'll do better when its cooler out.

Yours 60' times sucks nuts. With practice you can get a 2.2 on stock rubber and run a mid 15 at least. Just work on your launch.
