Sunroof Blues

So I made the stupid mistake of bumping my sunroof close botton twice and left it cracked open a while back snow/ice got in my sunroof and screwed the track up.

Ford Dealers quoted me 800 to have it taken care of! Apparently these are very expensive parts and I think it's a bit rediculous because the sunroof assembly for my classic Porsche is cheaper but that's besides the point.

I got a used unit from Dan at SVT Salvage and started working on this today. Man what a pain in the ass it is to get all of the interior parts taken out. To get the sunroof out you have to take the headliner out. To do that you have to take the A, B, and C Pillar covers off which isn't that bad.

The major pain came in the form of the wretched handles! My god what a pain it was to try to get those things out. I found the little hole that you have to stick a screw driver into to press a tab to release the handle from the roof but it never fully released. I ended up breaking ever single one of them somehow. I am suprised how eaily they cracked with just barely pulling on them.

So then after I got the stupid handles off, I pulled the headliner out the back of the car which required delicate flexing of the material so as to not upset anything.

I would have finished this if I didn't break the handles and if it was a bit warmer. The temperature got cold enough where my hands were numb and I think that might have had something to do with how I broke the handled but in anycase I plan on taking some picture of this PITA tomorrow when I finish the job.

On a sidenote- does anyone have any tips for this disaster?

No, tips here but I feel your pain. I left my sunroof open one night through a rain storm! That was fun!
