Exclamation Which Air Intake will work with the SPI engine?! help please

Hey guys,

I am new to this site, and need help. The 1st mod i would like to do is to put a air intake. There are many out there for the focus, but most repeadtly say it is for the DOHC engine, and not the SOHC, which would be the beloved SPI. If anyone know of a awsome air intake that i would be able to buy, which would fit the SPI, i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

( I am currently looking at the Ractive intake for the focus, but do not know if it would fit the SPI. The SPI and the ZETEC both have the same location for the air intake box, and pipes, but i am not sure.)

Stefan

hmm. My first choice would be since the SPI is a SOHC...that the SOHC intake would fit perfectly *being sarcastic*

All jokes aside. Welcome to the forum.

The ZETEC (dohc) throttle body is differnt from the 50mm tb on the SPI. You can get a DOHC (zete) intake system but your going to need to find an adapter or reducer to make it fit on the throttle body. Right now there are cheap intakes, and expensive intake systems. Currently for the SPI we are down to custom made CAI's, cool-flo from focus sport, iceman, volant, and the cheap ones on ebay for the SOHC. You can just go with a great K&N drop in filter and save yourself time, if you want. But your best bet for performance are the cool-flo, icemane and volant intake systems. Its funny that your looking for an intake system. I found a way to make an cheap intake look-alike system. Though I would have to warn you...your not going to have that much performance from it. But if your lookin for a way to keep your stuff intact without doing alot of replace check out my reply's at: http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/s...threadid=11368

The best way to go from Experience is the Cool-Flo from Focus Sport- I have gotten the highest Gains from that CAI- I have Tried everyone on the Market before replacing my TB- Until you get to the step to change to the 60mm throttle body go with the Cool-flo its a little more expensive but well worth it!

^Shameless plug^

Just kidding. I personally would go with a cool-flo too. But optimal performance is with a 60mm TB and intake system.

i was looking into buying the ractive intake, but i wasnt sure it would fit the SOHC. If your sure it would fit it, that would be the one i would get. Do you own this intake?

Lol I wouldn't buy that intake- Do you really want to cut performance to save a buck? Well to tell you the truth your not getting any major gains with an intake and not having a t/b- I had a cool-flo for a while with minimal gains and threw on a 60 mm tb- And you would be amazed at the difference- for the price difference $80 to the cool flo $140 maybe cheaper its not worth buying a maybe!
