Thumbs down engine light on...could it be b/c one light is out?

i have the engine light on...could it be b/c one of the lights that illuminate the license plate is out??? ive had cars that make the engine light go off when one the headlights/taillights are out

No, that would have NOTHING to do with it. Go down to an auto parts store and read the code. That'd be your best bet.
