header wrap
i just put on a 50' roll of header wrap on my car, i have a shorty header, and i was concerned about the heat melting the near by hoses, it isnt the prettyest thing in town, but it serves a great purpose in my eyes. and i never have my hood open anyway, i always like to keep people guesing whats under there, lol

thanks, i tried to make it look somewhat presentable but it is near impossible with the tight bends in the tubing, not to mention the butt ugly color that stuff is. but now i dont have to have that thought in the back of my mind of melting hoses and causing more trouble than the whole thing is worth.lol

correct me if im wrong...but i once asked ppl about the header wrap and they said it was a decent idea but in the long run, all that wrap messes up the header and the header will eventually become crappy...i dunno...just what i heard...might me true...kinda makes sense b/c the header doesnt have a chance to let out some of the heat and the header itself becomes hotter...

Header wrap will decrease the lifespan of a header, but it all depends on what its made of. Crappy metal will deteriorate quickly, good quality will last for years. Wrapping just the shorty headers will not give much performance benefits, but it can't hurt. The idea is to keep the gasses hot and flowing fast til they get out. When the gas comes out of the head it starts to cool immediately which can kinda cause a backup. Hot gasses all the way to the collector can actually cause the cylinders that are firing and blowing out to suck the gasses out of the ones that are not (scavenging effect in a nutshell). Race headers that are wrapped all the way back to the flex can see pretty decent gains. That's why the metal is so abused... Exhaust is extremely hot when it comes out of the head, it cools a lot in the header. If you wrap it it stays hot all the way out, which causes the metal to stay that hot all the time. Some cheap metals will simply bake and crumble away. Today's better exhausts have the right stuff in em, and should last quite a while. Another great benefit is decrease in under-hood temps, colder air=more power. My New race header is getting wrapped top to bottom, this will allow me to go back to a short ram rather than the cai I really dont like. I'll post up pix when i get it on. I like the looks of wrap too, when u pop the hood and see a wrapped header it looks more serious than a bling chrome one. imo.

What if you wrap the entire exhaust? Header to tail pipe? Any ideas on that>?
