Thanks! But.....
There's just the 1 mounting hole on each side at the back for the rack?
I would have thought there'd be 2.

At least we know that the holes are still there on '04 models.
And SVT to boot.

Now, to come up with $$ for the rack.
Right now, I'm stashing it away for dedicated winter wheels/tires.
Once that's done.....

So, anyone fit a MTB in the back with the seats down?
Going to have find some way to haul one around for the time being.
I really don't want to have to fire up the ole 8mpg Bronco at this point.
Well, at least not to do something as trivial as hauling a bike.

Only one hole for the rear supports. Two for the sides. We've put bikes in the back with the rear seat down a number of times. Pull the front wheel and there's lots of room. Helps if you take out the parcel self as well.

Anyone know what size bolt goes in the rear holes. Front is 6mm I think, can't figure out rear, 8mm too big and 7mm is still loose.

Front holes ought to be very obvious. At the risk of exposing my ignorance per hardware, make sure the pitch for front&back is correct. Not too fine or too coarse of threads.

Tomorrow, I visit my local Ford dealer to see about some odds&ends including the mounting hardware for the rack. On Friday or the beginning of next week, I ought to have the rack in hand... presumably with parts and a parts list. It'll be hard to help until then.

I seem to recall mention of "self-tapping" bolts for the rear. That is to say, the bolts are intended to fit very snug and essentially create the threads in the fitting in the body. (There's a name for this type of fitting... zirc.-something-or-other?) Anyway, I cannot help until my rack gets here. Best I can suggest is calling BAT Inc. http://www.batinc.net/main.htm .

BTW, great pictures by WD40!

Thanks, if you don't mind post when you get the rack and parts, as to what size for the bolts.

[Second attempt at short reply.]

My local Ford dealer provided a diagram of the Kona rack, but that's it. There is precious little information. The best the dealer can do is order a bunch of hardware.

So... tomorrow (Friday), I ought best not lose any hardware like I am prone to do. It will be late Friday or early Saturday before I get to the roof rack.

Get yourself a few ziplocks, and put all the hardware in them.
Tape/tie the bags to the rack.
Keeps things organized and in one place. Works for me.

Sorry, that may have a been a bit "elementary", but ya never know.
